Salmon River Trail

11 Bridge St, East Hampton, CT – 7.7 miles (with the side trip to the falls)

We parked at the Comstock Bridge in East Hampton. I have done variations of this hike several times, but this was my first official time staying on the blue trail. I am not sure why it is listed as 5 miles, it is 7.7 to car and back (even without the side trip to the waterfall it would have been over 7 miles).

This is a peaceful hike that starts by crossing a covered bridge and takes you along the Salmon River before turning into the woods. The trail is well marked and groomed. It is a good mix of inclines and flat sections and has bridges where needed to get you across mud and streams. There are some large rock formations that are great to see and fun to climb too.

You’ll eventually end up by Day Pond which is also a a lovely little spot, but my favorite part is the waterfall, so be sure to take the posted .2 miles side trail to see it. Since that is off of the trail my actual favorite thing on the blue trail is the tree that hugs you back and the tree that bares her soul.
