Mattabesett Trail Part 1

Today we started our adventure of doing a thru-hike of the 62 mile Mattabesett Trail.

The trail starts at River Road in Middletown (directly across from NRG) and ends at Brooks Road (Asylum Reservoir 2). It is said to be a 4.8 mile hike, but I clocked 5.2. It took us just over 3 hours to complete. (We make quick stops for photos and to take in the nature.)

The blue blazes are easy to follow. I got confused twice, the blazes were painted on rocks that were a little steep (we also had ice) so I was a little intimidated, but sure enough, you do need to go down the rocks.

Oh yes, and we have renamed this section to Sparkle Trail because of all the shimmering rocks. ✨

Things we appreciated about this trail:

All the quartz, waterfalls, awesome moss, lovely laurel, variety of terrain, cool cave, many streams and some with bridges, old foundation and well.
