Pachaug Trail Part 3

Starting at 274-290 Hell Hollow Rd, Voluntown, CT and ending at 1257-1295 Voluntown Rd, Jewitt City, CT ~ 7.88 miles and 4 hrs.

This section of the Pachaug did not disappoint. It was an easy and pretty section. The trail starts out in the woods and includes a few small road walks, but is mostly wooded. The trail takes you through a section of the Pachaug State Forest park which includes is a gorgeous walk through pine forests and dirt roads. (The halfway point for this section is the parking for the Rhododendron Sanctuary within the park which is also a good spot for a tick check and bathroom break.)

There is a stream running next to the trail for a section which made for lots of small waterfalls and pretty views. The trail did get a little swampy in places and therefore buggy. The flying bugs weren’t so bad, but the ticks were out of control.

It was great to see the spring flowers and plants filling in. We saw a ton of ladyslippers — more so than I think any of us had ever seen in one place.

There was one or two notable inclines, one being the walk up to the Mount Misery overlook. The overlook was not that impressive, but enjoyable, nonetheless.

Overall, I would say the Pachaug Trail is a great trail and worth the time.
