Barn Island Wildlife Management is a great place to go for a nature walk. The trails are easy and are mainly flat. They are the choose-your-own-adventure type — we did a loop with a couple of spurs, one of which brought us to the shore. As a bonus feature the shore included a chocolate lab, who would’ve come with us if we let him.

We had read online that it was a good place for birdwatching, so we packed binoculars and were glad we did. We both were able to watch a great blue heron “up close!”

I would love to return on a sunny spring day.
