Hartman Park

Gungy Rd, Lyme, CT – Various trails, I mainly stuck to red… 5.7 miles ~ 2 hours.

Hartman Park is a great land trust in Lyme, CT. I was first introduced to it by my friend Erin and it is also where I was first introduced to usnea.

Hartman offers various trails that have both natural stones and human stone structures, including walls, foundations, chimneys and fireplaces. None of the hills are difficult and it is a great place for a leisurely hike.

There are several wetlands with active beavers so the trails do have some mucky areas. Typically there are stone or wooden bridges in place to accommodate this, but I came across a couple of areas that were flooded.

I saw lots of great nature including blueberries, mountain laurel, wild roses, a chicken of the woods, bird’s-foot trefoil, wild strawberries and others.

Of course I saw one snake dripping down a rock (nightmares) and heard another near the trail.

I caught the sunset and returned to the parking lot just as it was getting dark. It was a beautiful spot for an evening hike.
