Cockaponset Blue Trail

Parking one car at the parking lot off of Route 9 exit 8 and then another at the trail head on Route 148 in Chester – 7.6 miles

Today we did the Cockaponset Blue Trail. In true “Tangled Up in Blue” fashion, we managed to make a published 7 mile hike into a 9.6 mile hike. We accidentally got a false start on the white trail, which was right next to the blue trail. 2 miles later and deciding that was our warm up, we started the 7.6 mile Blue Trail.

The trail was really pretty. It is a nice mix of hills and flat areas. Lots of streams with little bridges or rocks to cross, large rock formations, mountain laurel, and beautiful snow. The snow made for some tricky spots, but actually was helpful through many of the rock scrambles. For most of the hike we were following snow shoe tracks but for the last mile or so, we were the first people to do the thru hike since at least the last snowfall.
