Devil’s Hopyard During a Drought

366 Hopyard Rd, East Haddam, CT- Various trails

I have hiked and taken pics of this place for many years. Today was the first time I had ever been during a drought. On one hand, it was awesome to see and walk on the rocks that are normally covered by the water, on the other, it is sad to think how badly we need rain.

We walked along and int the Eight-mile River in search of the boulders with garnets in them. Since the river was so dried up we were able to hop from rock to rock or just walk in the river itself. We saw lots of frogs, butterflies and cardinal plants along the way. We did find the garnets, and also a swimming hole further down that I never knew existed.

It was a actually a great way to spend a couple of hours exploring in high humidity.
