Greenway Trail

Looping from the Block Island ferry and back was 9.5 miles. We picked up Greenway on Payne Road and finished at Beacon Hill Rd. According to AllTrails this section of the Greenway is 6 miles.

This trail is a beautiful and easy trail. The trail travels through fields and wooded areas and by a pond. It also provides gorgeous ocean views. The trail itself was mostly dirt and grassy paths. It is primarily flat with gentle inclines. There were maybe 3 notable inclines but none required any skill to climb.

Mike spotted a deer and a fawn in the first field we passed. We also saw horses, ducks, chickens, (a mom and her babies were in the brush on the side of the trail), a rooster and two mules.

The fields were full of wild flowers and plants. Some of the ones that caught our eyes were:

  • Autumn Olive
  • Rosehips (Carolina Rose)
  • Goldenrod
  • Northern Bayberry
  • Swamp Loosestrife
  • Thistle (alive and passed)
  • Mile-A-Minute
  • Winged Sumac
  • Milkweed
  • Cockspur Hawthorn

Unfortunately we did not discover one of the elusive glass orbs. We did however find lots of fantastic hiding places, which led to multiple occasions of saying, “I’d orb that!”
