Mattatuck Trail Part 5

Starting at 77-89 Valley Rd, Warren CT and ending at 74 Flat Rocks Rd, Cornwall Bridge, CT ~ 7.7 miles and 4hrs

We were finally able to get back to the Mattatuck Trail. This trail has a big break in the middle and the start of the trail was not marked with parking on the CFPA interactive map, so we scouted it out when we finished the last section. Fortunately there is room for parking at the trailhead.

The trail is great. It is a mix of forest floors, streams, and rocks— so many rocks. At one point Dana called it a “rockstable course,” and that is the most fitting name. There are some steady inclines and lots of switchbacks. Besides the fancy footwork to hop the rocks and cross the streams, this section is pretty easy. Overall it has been a really pretty trail with some great features, but I am looking forward to finishing it.

Notable features to this trail:

  • all the moss
  • rocks
  • streams
  • small waterfalls
  • the rock with a face and hair
  • sections of mountain laurel
  • the tree for tall people to limbo under
