Metacomet Trail Part 6

Starting at 4-6 Newgate Rd, East Granby, CT and ending at 7 Rising Corner Rd, Southwick, MA ~ 9.7 miles and 5hrs and 22 mins.

So today was a big day! We not only finished the Metacomet Trail today, but we officially completed all of the CT section of the New England Trail System!

It was a cold but beautiful day for a hike. Starting directly from the parking lot the trail started out with a brief climb into the woods. The trail was mostly icy which gave me the opportunity to wear my Kahtoola microspikes — and discover that I love them! Dana and Bryan didn’t bring theirs so we ended up going a slightly slower pace than normal, and there were a few small spills along the way, but fortunately nothing serious. Dana dubbed the day, “walk like a penguin day.”

This section of trail is really beautiful! I like trails like this where the good majority of it is along the ridge with several vistas. None of the climbs were difficult — there was one hill that got my heart pumping and Dana feeling her legs, but overall it was a very mild section.

There are tons of great rock formations, hemlocks and other trees along the way. I would like to come back and do this section again in the spring to see the transition to green.
