Shenipsit Trail Part 3

Starting at 117 Imperial Drive, Glastonbury, CT and ending at 211 Birch Mountain Rd, Manchester, CT~ 6.35 miles and 3 hrs 19 mins

The wooded sections of this trail were pretty, and despite the fact that it goes up Birch and Case Mountains, it was an overall leisurely hike. The trail is a mix of forest floor and rocks. There are fantastic boulders along the way including a natural retaining wall.

There are a couple of streets to cross, and one spot where the trail literally goes through someone’s backyard, but there is only a short amount of road walk. We did encounter a section that was muddy— more like walking in a stream! Of course as a way to make it more interesting there were thorns on each side so it was a tricky area to navigate.

Similar to the last section there are many pieces of schist rock with the addition of gorgeous quartz specimens.

Being a typical blue trail… right when we thought we were about to end, it went up hill one last time before a gradual decline to the parking lot.
