George B. Parker Woodland Wildlife Refuge

Starting and ending at 1670 Maple Valley Road Greene, RI. We did loops of the orange and blue trails for a total of ~7.12 miles and 3 hrs 15 mins.

It was a beautifully sunny day for a hike in the woods. We went to explore the George B. Parker Woodland Wildlife Refuge. This is a very easy hike with only a few small hills. It is beautiful though as there are lots of big rocks, cairns and old foundation(s)???— I think I only saw one, and pretty brooks with small falls.

The trail has some boardwalks, wooden bridges, and puncheons to get through some of the marshier areas. Some of the puncheon were rotted through and loose so be careful on those.

It was a really peaceful and pretty area. We didn’t encounter many creatures, including humans, but there is supposed to be good bird watching, fox deer, fishers and mink here. We did hear an owl twice and also followed deer track on almost all the trails, but didn’t see anything. (A mile down the road when I was back in my car I did see a beautiful hawk fly to the ground so that was an added bonus to being in the area.)
