Mount Pemigewasset

Starting at the Flume Visitor Center parking lot in Lincoln, NH ~ the trail is listed as 3 miles (1.5 to summit) but we clocked 4.8 from parking lot and back and walking around the summit. It took 2.5 hrs with a break at the top to take in the views.

Mount Pemigewasset is a 2,557 foot mountain located in Lincoln, NH. It is also known as Indian Head. It is a very well groomed trail and I would argue with it being classified as moderate and classify it as easy. There aren’t any steep parts and the trail was very well marked and groomed. I had the pleasure of seeing and thanking some of the caretakers from Trailwrights as they were working hard to install new rock stairs on the path.

The woods had a lot of great old trees and cool vegetation. Amongst the birches, burls, and mushrooms, I found three new plants for me: beech drops, shining club moss and whorled wood aster. I also found my first autumn leaves.

The skies were overcast but they didn’t take away from the fact the the views from the summit are breathtaking and I spent some time taking them in.

There is a yellow trail that you can take on the way down, but it said it drops you a mile south of the parking lot so I took the same path down. This was great because I was able to take the newly installed stairs on my way back and congratulate the volunteers on what a great job they did.
