Pequot Trail

Parking one car at the corner of Shewville Rd and Coachman Pike, Ledyard and the other at 79 Shetucket Turnpike, Preston, CT – 9.5 miles end to end

Starting on Coachman, you walk through a neighborhood up a hill and around a corner to a blue marker between two properties on the right hand side. The trail continues in the woods for a small section before returning to pavement. Take a left follow the road to the stop sign take a right and then a left and walk along the pavement until you see a blue sign on the right and a bar going across a road. This takes you back to the woods. You’ll stay in the woods for a several miles and eventually come out at a park. Follow Lincoln Park road all the way to the end where you’ll have to cross route 2. The trail picks up again and for the next few miles it will be mainly wooded until you come to the power lines. You’ll go a mix of woods and power lines until the end of the trail.

Overall it is a pretty easy trail. There are maybe 2 notable inclines on the whole trail. There is a fun “Indiana Jones type” bridge to cross, lots of green rock formations, various streams and small bodies of water along the way. Quartz and garnets sparkle in the sun which makes for added beauty and there is a section where DEEP is trying to allow for Red Cedar growth.

We only saw two other people the entire time, and there were quite a few fallen trees on the trail so I wonder if this trail is used all that often.
